Dedicated vaccine clinic for people with learning disabilities on TODAY

No appointment is needed. The clinic will run from 9am to 4:30pm at the Kube Conference Centre at Leicester Racecourse.

People with a learning disability are invited to have their first Covid vaccination at a dedicated clinic on Monday 14th June 2021, to help protect them against coronavirus. 

There is no need to book an appointment in advance.

It has been arranged by two groups of GP practices (Oadby and Wigston Primary Care Network and Leicester City and University Primary Care Network), for anyone living in Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland and aged 16 or over.

People attending will receive their vaccination from a specialist team consisting of learning disability nurse vaccinators, learning disability liaison nurses and GPs.

The clinic coincides with the start of Learning Disability week which runs from 14th to 21st June.

This year, the theme for the week is all about art and creativity. At the clinic, there will be opportunities for people to get creative and take part in a 
colouring competition to improve their experience of being vaccinated.

Dr Ravi Sahdev, Clinical Director of the primary care network said: “For people with a learning disability, being vaccinated in a normal clinic setting can be really daunting and upsetting. By offering a dedicated clinic we can allow more time for people to be vaccinated so we can provide any assurance and adjustments that are needed. We have also brought in a specialist team of vaccinators who are used to working with people with a learning disability. Anyone with a learning disability is at increased risk from Covid-19 so it is important that we vaccinate as many people as possible in this group.”
