Four people were taken to hospital.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a three-vehicle collision just off the M1 in Leicester on Monday, 8 December.
The collision was reported at 6.20 am on the slip road, just off junction 21 of the M1 northbound, and involved a white Mercedes E Class, a grey VW Passat and a black Audi S3.
The driver of the VW was injured, he has since been discharged from hospital after treatment.
The two occupants of the Mercedes and driver of the Audi were also taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
The two men in the Mercedes, both in their 30s, were arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. They have since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw what happened on the slip road after the collision, did anyone approach your vehicle while you were waiting in the tailbacks?
We would also like to speak to anyone who may have recorded any footage on their dashcams.
