Traffic Officers have reminded people to make sure they have enough fuel for their journey
Traffic was disrupted on the M1 earlier today after a car ran out of fuel near Leicester Forest East services.
They stopped in the outside lane forcing it to be closed southbound at junction 21a.
Police and traffic officers were quickly on the scene and the car was refuelled on its way not long after.
Despite popular belief, it is not illegal to run out of fuel on the motorway but it can be dangerous for both you and other drivers.
Commenting on Twitter, Traffic Officer Dave Harford said,
"Always ensure you’ve got enough fuel to complete a journey.
"This is a completely avoidable incident and puts the car occupants and other drivers in danger.
"There is even a hard shoulder the vehicle could have got to!"
