February has been the month for unusual rescues by firefighters in Leicestershire.

On Monday 23rd February, crews from Coalville Fire Station were called to rescue an injured badger in Stanton under Bardon.

The RSPCA were also in attendance at the incident where the animal had taken refuge under the wheel arch of a parked car.

Crews carefully encouraged the badger to come out safely so that it could be assessed by the professionals and taken for treatment.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Please check under and around your vehicle before driving off - especially in colder weather."

Earlier in the month, on Friday 6th February, crews from Hinckley station were called out to a house on Stapleton Lane in Barwell after a cat had become trapped behind an entertainment unit.

She was recovered, unharmed and left in the care of her owner.

Firefighters say if you do find an animal in distress, always contact the appropriate animal rescue organisation and never put yourself or the animal at risk.
