End-of-term cleaning blitz for Loughborough's students

Students in Loughborough are being encouraged to take part in an end-of-term waste clear-out on Monday July 5, 2021.

Charnwood Borough Council and waste management partner Serco are working with Loughborough University to organise the big clear-up in student areas of the town including Kingfisher Way and Park Road.

The annual clear-out event happens at the end of the academic term and targets around 2,000 student properties to give people a chance to get rid of things they don’t want to take home.

Cllr Jenny Bokor, lead member for Loughborough, said: “We’ve done an end-of-terms blitz for a number of years now and it gives students in Loughborough an opportunity to clear out their accommodation before they leave the town for the summer.

“We work together with the University to encourage students to get rid of stuff they may no longer need or don’t want to take home with them.

“I’d urge all students to get involved and do their bit to keep our town as clean and tidy as possible.”

Materials which can be recycled should be placed in the green bin and non-recyclable waste must be placed in the black bin for collection. Items that don’t fit in the bin should be booked in for a bulky waste collection or taken to a local refuse site. Building waste or fixtures and fittings will not be collected.

Students are also being encouraged to donate items which are in good condition and can be reused to local charity shops.

Bins should be presented for 8am on Monday July 5, 2021 and be put back on the same day of collection.

Bulky waste items such as large electrical items or furniture can be removed by the Council for a small charge. Bulky waste collections cost £20 for three items and a list of eligible items is available on the Council’s website.
