The woman had to escape from her flat and was taken to hospital.
A 26-year-old man described as being “extremely dangerous” has been jailed for more than 10 years for attacking a vulnerable woman.
Brandan Sharp attacked a woman with a machete after forcing entry to her flat in Dorlecote Court in June 2022.
The victim – a woman in her 30s – managed to escape and a neighbour raised the alarm.
She was taken to hospital with a serious injury to her hand that required surgery and 20 stitches.
Sharp was arrested a couple of weeks later when officers found him whilst raiding a flat in Borough Way as part of a drugs investigation. During the raid officers seized crack cocaine and heroin.
Sharp, of Elderfield Drive, Sutton-in-Ashfield pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm, and being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and heroin. He was jailed for 10-and-a-half years.
Detective Constable Reece Gordon from Nuneaton Proactive CID said: “Sharp is extremely dangerous and could easily have killed his victim with this vicious attack. While her injuries were serious it is remarkable she wasn’t more badly hurt or worse.
“I am pleased Sharp is now behind bars for a significant length of time and I can only hope this offers some solace to the victim.”
