Mildred Whitmore, 84, was described as the 'queen of the family.'
She died in an incident at a house on Church Street, Nuneaton on Tuesday (1st June) morning.
Officers have been given additional time to question a 31-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder. He currently remains in police custody.
Mildred’s family said: "Mildred was the queen of our family. A loving wife, mother, grandma, great grandma and friend.
“Mildred would find great enjoyment from spending time with her family and pottering around her garden.
“Everyone who knew her would agree she was a loving gentle lady, who will be greatly missed by all that were lucky enough to know her.”
Investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Caroline Corfield from Warwickshire Police said: “We’re continuing to investigate this incident and our thoughts very much remain with Mildred’s family. We are keeping them fully updated and they are being supported by specially-trained officers.
“Officers will remain in the area over the coming days as part of enquiries, and can be approached by members of the community with any concerns.
“Our investigation remains ongoing and we would ask anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the College Street area between 7pm on Monday and 9am on Tuesday to please come forward.
“We would ask that the family of Mildred have their privacy respected at this difficult time.”
