Houses evacuated as suspected unexploded object found in Whetstone

A cordon was placed in the surrounding area and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team were contacted.

Residents in Whetstone were evacuated from their homes earlier today as a  suspected unexploded object was found.

Police were called at 11.25 am this morning (Thursday) to a suspected unexploded ordinance in The Sidings, Whetstone.

A cordon was placed in the surrounding area and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team were contacted.

Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) are explosive weapons that did not detonate when they were employed and still pose a risk of detonation, this could be bombs, bullets, shells or grenades.

At 2:45 the police said: "The device has been deemed non-viable and the cordons have been lifted."
