The campaign will mark Armed Forces Day on Saturday 26th June.

Residents are being encouraged to share share a photo of themselves saluting on social media to show support appreciation and support for those within the Armed Forces community including cadets, veterans and currently serving troops and their families.

Mike Kapur, Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire, said: “We are delighted to be running the #SaluteOurForces campaign again this year. After so much success in 2020, and engagement from so many people across Leicester and Leicestershire, we are looking forward to putting together another impressive and diverse virtual parade.

“This is a simple way for all of us to pay tribute to our local armed forces, not just for what they are doing currently, but for all their hard work, dedication and efforts to keep us safe in the UK and across the globe.”

To take part, all you need to do is take a photograph of yourself saluting and share it with the Lieutenancy Office by Friday 18th June. Guidance on the proper way to salute can be found on Lieutenancy twitter page, or County Council YouTube page.

Councillor Dan Harrison, Chairman of Leicestershire County Council, said: “I am delighted to be supporting the #SaluteOurForces campaign. It is important that we show our appreciation to our Armed Forces personnel and veterans. This is something that everyone get involved with – people of all ages and backgrounds, you can get involved with family, friends or co-workers! I would urge everyone to show their support with a salute to our Armed Forces.”

You can tweet the Lord-Lieutenant (@LeicsLieutenant) with #SaluteOurForces or email; lieutenancyoffice@leics.gov.uk

Photos will be compiled into an online album and will be displayed to the public in Green Dragon Square, Leicester on Saturday 26th June.
