The plans affect Charnwood, Bosworth and North West Leicestershire constituencies.

Overall, the number of constituencies in the East Midlands will increase from 46 to 47.

The Bosworth constituency is to be renamed to Hinckley & Bosworth and gain  Appleby, and Oakthorpe and Donisthorpe from North West Leicestershire.

Charnwood's constituency would be abolished and replaced with a Mid Leicestershire constituency. This would no longer contain Glenfield, which will be moved to a new Leicester West and Glenfield area.

It would however contain Markfield Stanton & Field Head and Ratby Bagworth & Thornton, formally in Bosworth.

Changes are also made to Loughborough's constituency.

Mountsorrel would be come part of Loughborough rather than Charnwood/Mid Leicestershire. A boundary along the River Soar would mean Burton on the Wolds and Syston would no longer be part of Loughborough. Instead a new Melton and a Syston constituency would be created.

Meanwhile in Blaby, a new Blaby, Oadby and Wigston constituency would be created (formally part of South Leicestershire). Stoney Stanton, Sapcote, and Sharnford would all be including in this new area.

The 2023 Review of Parliamentary constituencies was formally launched in January this year.

The Commission is required to ensure that the number of electors in each constituency is more equal; in doing so, the number of constituencies in England will increase from 533 to 543.

The Commission is undertaking an independent review of all constituency boundaries in England and will present final recommendations to Parliament by July 2023.

Now the public is encouraged to have their say on the proposals by visiting https://www.bcereviews.org.uk/ to view maps showing the proposed new boundaries and to provide feedback before the consultation closes on 2 August 2021. There will be a further two rounds of consultation in 2022.
