Officers remain on Bull Street, Nuneaton, following a serious incident in the town this morning (Friday 29 June).
Police were called shortly before 3am to a report that a man in his late twenties had sustained a gunshot wound. He was taken to hospital by ambulance where he is currently in a serious condition. His next of kin has been informed.
A cordon remains in place at the scene.
Detective Inspector Jill Fowler from Warwickshire Police said: "We are in the very early stages of the investigation and extensive enquiries are ongoing.
"I understand that this incident will be very concerning for the local community. I'd like to reassure them that a thorough investigation has been launched and we will have extra officers in the area carrying out enquiries and providing reassurance.
"We would ask anyone with any information which could assist with the investigation, or who may have any concerns, to please come forward or to speak with a local officer."
