Memorial plaques stolen from local crematorium

Families are being contacted after a number of memorial plaques were stolen from the grounds of Loughborough Crematorium.

Dignity, which operates the crematorium, says the plaques are lasting tributes to loved ones and hold great sentimental value for the families who placed them there.

Some of the memorials had been in place for many decades.

The company says it is working closely with the authorities as the incident is investigated, and is attempting to contact the families affected.

Dignity spokesperson said:

 “We are deeply saddened that a number of memorial plaques have been stolen from the grounds of Loughborough Crematorium. These are lasting tributes to loved ones and hold great sentimental value for the families who placed them here, some dating back many decades.

 “We are working closely with the authorities to investigate, and we would urge anyone with information to come forward. We will be attempting to contact the affected families.

 “Our thoughts are with those families who may be affected by this distressing incident."
