Nearly 70 fines for fly-tippers handed out in Nuneaton and Bedworth

The council's environmental enforcement team issued fines to 68 people since February.

The £400 penalty notices for fly-tipping are currently reduced to £200 if paid within 10 working days.

If the fines are not paid, you can be taken to court.

The Council’s Waste and Legal teams are currently collating several prosecution case files in relation to fly-tipping where fines remain unpaid. If taken to court and found guilty, fly-tippers face unlimited fines and a potential criminal record.

Householders who give their waste to a third party to dispose of, are still responsible for their own waste and if it is found dumped; both the waste owner and the third party face fines of up to £400 or prosecution.

The number of fly-tipping incidents has increased in the borough since the start of the pandemic, and the council recently installed cameras at so-called 'hot-spots.'

Cllr Kyle Evans, Portfolio Holder for Public Services said:

“Under new management, this Council will get tough on those who illegally dump waste across our Borough, delivering on our Manifesto Commitment on getting tough on those responsible for crime and grime. A zero tolerance approach is just the start of our comprehensive plan of vision, ambition and aspiration to crack down on fly-tippers.”
