Plans to turn village pub into flats

A planning application has been submitted to turn The Manor House at Quorn into flats.

The plans, which have been submitted to Charnwood Borough Council, would see 12 homes created in total consisting of two 1-bedroom flats, nine 2-bedroom flats, and a 5-bedroom detached house.

The application states that to due the closure of the pub and restaurant during the pandemic, it is no longer viable to continue as a hospitality venue: "The Manor House has been closed for some period of time and due to the economic downturn associated with the hospitality industry arising from the Coronavirus pandemic. The unfortunate reality is that the operation of the business and its associated facilities is no longer considered sustainable."

The main Manor House building would be converted into five 2-bedroom apartments across its three floors.

The ancillary B&B building would be converted into four 2-bedroom flats and two 1-bedroom flats across its two floors.

The pavilion building, which is currently used as a function room, would be converted into a 5-bedroom detached house. 

One neighbour said there was no reason for the council to approve the application: "Given that lockdown is currently being eased and is unlikely to be a permanent arrangement as vaccine rollout continues, there is no justification for this application to be approved. I drove past the Manor this lunchtime and saw many parked cars and food being served outside. This hardly accords with the justification for this application"

Eleven people are employed on a full-time basis at The Manor House and 36 people work part-time at the site. 

Local people have until 6th May 2021 to comment on the plans with a decision expected in June.
