Preparation works for Town Centre project begin in Shepshed

The works are in preparation for the £1.2 million Shepshed Town Centre project which is hoped to commence in 2022.

Between Monday August 9 and Friday August 20, nine trial holes will be dug in selected locations in Market Place to identify what existing utility services are located underground in the area.

Residents and local businesses will notice a small amount of disruption while work is being completed.

This preparation work is necessary to help to minimise the amount of utility diversion works that may be required when the improvement project gets underway next year.

Most of the trial holes will only take a day to be completed.

Temporary bollards will be placed around the works and for some of the trial holes, short sections of roads will need to be reduced to single lane traffic for one or two days to ensure the safety of the public and construction teams.

Charnwood Borough Council is working closely with the Shepshed Town Team, with support from Shepshed Town Council on the public realm improvement scheme which will help make the town centre more attractive for visitors and help boost trade of local shops and businesses.

Last year the Council held a public consultation on the proposals for the town centre public realm improvement project.

In response to the comments made during the consultation, the Council has revised the proposals in Market Place, including the creation of an additional five parking spaces in the completed scheme.

The current parking bays in Cheapside will be unaffected by the proposed improvements to Market Place.
