Seven men have been arrested after protests in Nuneaton town centre.

The protests, which took place on Saturday (28 March) were organised after an asylum seeker was jailed for the rape of a 12-year-old girl in the town.

Officers said a policing operation was in place to make sure the “to balance the rights of those people who wished to peacefully protest with the needs of the local community.”

The seven arrests were on suspicion of public order offences and the men remain in police custody.

“We would like to take this chance to remind everyone that this area is covered by CCTV, and if it was not practical to arrest an offender today, it will happen at the earliest opportunity.”
