A Year 12 student at Higham Lane School in Nuneaton has tested positive for Covid-19.

Year 12 and Year 13 pupils at the secondary school in Shanklin Drive have been asked to stay at home for 14 days to self-isolate.

A statement from the school said: "Higham Lane School can confirm that a Year 12 student at the School has tested positive for Covid-19.

"Our first thoughts are with the student and any family members affected and we hope they will make a rapid recovery. It is also our priority to protect or maintain the confidentiality of the student involved.

"In line with advice from Public Health England, we have reviewed all possible close contacts. We have consequently asked our Year 12 and Year 13 students to remain at home for 14 days to self-isolate.

"The School remains safe and open to all other students to continue attending as normal.

"Our absolute priority is the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff. We have followed the guidance from the Department for Education and Public Health Warwickshire in full. This has minimised the risk to other students and staff."
