As part of a £300,000 renovation of the public toilets in Loughborough town centre, card payments are now being accepted.

It costs 50p to use the new facilities at Market Yard, which have been fully refurbished, with new wall and floor coverings, upgraded sanitary-ware and all the mechanical and electrical equipment upgraded. The roof has also been replaced.

The toilets are owned and maintained by Charnwood Borough Council.

Cllr Jennifer Tillotson, the Council’s Lead Member for Housing, Economic Development, Regeneration and Town Centres, said:

“The public toilets in Loughborough are used by tens of thousands of visitors each year, this is why it is essential that they are restored to ensure the highest standard.”

Cllr Ian Ashcroft, the Council’s Lead Member for Property and Assets, said:

“Improving Loughborough’s public toilets is a vital investment as it will benefit the town centre for many years to come. I am really pleased that we have been able to reopen the facilities and I am impressed with the work that has taken place."

Visitors can also still pay with coins.

The work was carried out by Tanwood, a Leicestershire-based construction company.

The total cost of the refurbishment was £300,000.

Loughborough town centre has received significant investment in recent years, including new market stalls, support for events and businesses, expanded free public Wi‑Fi, and improved links to Queen’s Park. This work includes projects funded through the Loughborough Town Deal as well as initiatives led and supported by the borough council.
