In the past 18 months, monitored incidents have increased from 30 to 300 a month due to these new systems

North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) has invested nearly £100,000 in CCTV for the local area.

£93,000 has been spent on:

-       Moving into a new state-of-the-art CCTV control room

-       Replacing analogue cameras with digital HD cameras

-       New camera locations in both Ashby and Coalville

-       Improved communication between the control room and retailers as well as pubs using radios.

In the past 18 months, monitored incidents have increased from 30 to 300 a month due to these new systems. On top of this, in more than 50% of cases, the CCTV system has adequately captured the incidents.

The next steps in the council’s CCTV improvement plans include new systems in Castle Donington.

Councillor Michael Wyatt, Chair of the Safer North West Leicestershire Community Safety Partnership, said: “We remain committed to creating safer communities and this investment is a big step in the right direction.

“These recent improvements emphasise our dedication to ensure the safety of all local businesses and residents in the district.

“This investment has already led to many positive outcomes and I expect there to be many more to come.”
