Fire crews were called to a property in Poplar Road in Loughborough yesterday.
The fire was deemed to be accidental and originated in the kitchen.
The occupants were evacuated while they were on the phone to 999.
Appliances from Birstall and Loughborough arrived to put out the fire.
The oven where the fire started was completely ruined and the kitchen received extensive smoke damage.
Following the fire, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue reminded people over the importance of having a smoke alarm.
They said, "Smoke alarms are an essential early warning for fires. If you haven't got one, get one! Make sure you are testing your smoke alarms regularly."
