Smashgard in Loughborough have started producing visors to donate to medics on the frontline.

Darren Botterill, who owns the business, said he wanted to use the materials he had in his business to help the NHS tackle coronavirus.

Initially Smashgard hoped to be able to make 50 or 60 visors per day but they have since been inundated with requests.

Weeks after first having the idea, he posted on the company facebook page:

"Very moving moment, 25 of our visors going to frontline covid 19 staff at derby hospital today and were collected just now."

A post on the page also said: "A massive thank you from the Respiratory research Team at Glenfield hospital for the visors you have provided, we are all very grateful. The team are out on the wards working on crucial Covid -19 research. Thank you for your kindness and support"

The company has also posted a tutorial explaining to other firms how they can make the design in the hope they will aid production around the world.

Darren said that he believed he might be asked to make a few hundred visors but has now received requests totally 30,000.

He said: "I'm not doing this for me or my company, I don't care about that, I just desperately need to help keep these people as safe as I possibly can. Thank you, Darren."
