This will be the first time voters will have to show ID when casting their vote.

There will be local elections for Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council and Charnwood Borough Council in May.

The Electoral Commission is urging people to make sure they have an accepted form of ID in order to vote. Accepted forms include a UK, European Economic Area or Commonwealth passport or driving license. An older person’s bus pass and blue badge are also acceptable.

Voters will also be able to use ID that has expired, as long as they are still recognisable in the photo.

A full list of accepted forms of ID is available on the Electoral Commission website.(link is external)

Anyone who does not have one of the accepted forms of ID will be able to apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate ID online or by completing a paper form.
