A woman has been taken to hospital after being found lying in a carriageway with life-threatening injuries.
Motorists are being urged to contact police following the incident on the A6 between Mountsorrel and Loughborough yesterday morning.
Leicestershire police said: "Shortly after 10.45am on Thursday 17th September, police received a report of a woman lying in the carriageway.
"Officers attended and found the woman had suffered life-threatening injuries.
"She has since been taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.
"Two men aged 19 and 18, who were in a van nearby, have been arrested in connection with the incident.
"Enquiries to establish the circumstances of how the woman sustained her injuries are ongoing."
The A6 was closed in both directions between Granite Way, Mountsorrel and Quorn and is now fully reopened.
Detective Inspector Mark Parish, from the force’s Complex investigation team, said: “I would like to speak to anyone who was travelling along the A6 between Mountsorrel and Loughborough in either direction this morning (Thursday 17th September).
“I would urgently like to speak to anyone who has a dashcam installed in their vehicle – or who saw the woman in the carriageway.
“Any information you’re able to provide – no matter how insignificant you think it is – could help our investigation, which is still in its early stages.”
