More than 1,750 food parcels have been delivered by Charnwood Community Action.
From delivering food parcels and making befriending calls, work is continuing to support residents through Charnwood Community Action.
The campaign was launched by Charnwood Borough Council in partnership with John Storer Charnwood to support the borough community's effort during the coronavirus pandemic.
Local Facebook group, Loughborough Against Corona now has over 900 volunteers helping to collect and deliver shopping and medical supplies for residents in the borough at increased risk of severe illness from coronavirus.
Over the past few weeks the Council has also been making welfare checks on Charnwood Lifeline customers, tenants in sheltered accommodation and those aged over 80 to see how they are and if they need any further support.
In addition, the Council will be contacting around 300 residents aged over 70 from the electoral register where a telephone number has been provided.
Cllr Deborah Taylor, the Council’s lead member for communities said: “It’s essential we continue to support our communities and vulnerable residents through this difficult time.
“We’ve already written to all homes in the borough and will continue to make welfare checks on our vulnerable residents and tenants where possible.
“The community spirit has been fantastic, and we’ve been really pleased with the response to Charnwood Community Action. Local businesses have been very generous with donations, helping us to continue delivering food parcels to our residents in most need.
“I’d like to thank all of the communities in the borough which have come together to help their neighbours and local residents. If you know of an individual, group or local business making a difference during these difficult times, nominate them for a community star. It’s a quick and easy way to give a public thanks.”
