Work is underway to extend a popular skatepark in Loughborough. Charnwood Borough Council is investing £70,000 to extend the skatepark in Southfields Park. The work is due to be completed before Easter.
Cllr Jenny Bokor, lead member for Loughborough said: “The skatepark is already very popular with our residents and adding to it will mean more people are able to enjoy it.
“I’m pleased we’re able to make these improvements to Southfields Park to ensure it is a place for everyone to enjoy.”
Beginner inline skaters, skateboarders and BMX bikers will be encouraged to make use of the improved facility.
The skatepark extension is part of a project to revamp the park which is off Leicester Road. Last year the Council installed a new outdoor gym and improved the paths. There are also plans in the future to add a new entrance to the park.
The existing skatepark is expected to be open throughout most of the works however there may be some disruption to the access at times.
Members of the public were asked to give their views on the plans to revamp the park during a public consultation in Spring 2018.
