The new MUGA is expected to be completed this autumn.

Work has begun to redevelop a multi-use games area (MUGA) in Sileby.

The MUGA on Sileby Memorial Park is being extended after funding was received from the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

The work is part of a wider project to regenerate Sileby Memorial Park and Pavilion to improve opportunities for sport, activities and events.

Sileby Parish Council is leading the project and the new MUGA is expected to be completed this autumn.

Cllr Jennifer Tillotson, Charnwood Borough Council’s Lead Member for Economic Development, Regeneration and Town Centres, said: “I am pleased to see work has started to create a new and improved MUGA for Sileby residents. The funding will also help the parish council deliver its longer-term plan to regenerate this important green space in the village.”

The project has recieved almost £500,000 from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and is one of 10 projects included within the Future Charnwood UK Shared Prosperity Fund Investment Plan.

The Council has been allocated around £4 million from the fund to invest in communities, support local businesses and improve skills.

In addition to the work on the MUGA, the funding will help improve the park’s main entrance by making it more accessible and safer for pedestrians. A circular footpath is also being created around the park for walkers and a Parkour facility will be introduced.

Chair of Sileby Parish Council Julie Jones added: “I am delighted the first phase of this project is underway. This funding is going to help ensure the park offers more facilities for visitors and improve its accessibility as well as its biodiversity. The MUGA is popular with residents and we can’t wait to see the new and improved facility once it is complete.”

The new and improved MUGA will remain in the same location on the memorial park and will be available to use for basketball, football, cricket and a range of activities.
