More than £16,000 has been raised to help the family of a teenager after the Leicestershire schoolboy's tragic death at a lake.
13-year-old Hayden Jones-Powell died on Wednesday 25th June after getting in to difficulty at Meynell Lake in Syston during the heatwave.
A Crowdfunder appeal launched by his family has already received hundreds of donations, raising well above its original £6,000 target.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and the Hayden's body was recovered from the water.
In a heartfelt message on the fundraising page, Hayden's family described him as a "cheeky, gorgeous" teenager who loved animals, supported West Bromwich Albion and was a loyal friend.
They wrote:
"Without warning he was taken from us on the 26th of June. Hayden was like any other teenage boy who just went to the lake to paddle with his friends. He wanted to cool from the heat and enjoy the cool water. Hayden was such a beautiful, loving soul and we would like to be able to give him a send-off befitting for him."
The family said that while nothing could ease the pain of losing Hayden, they hope to give him "the beautiful send-off he deserves" and thanked everyone who has donated and shared messages of support.
