Officers are asking for anyone with information to come forward.
It happened on Friday (10th January) in Warwick Way.
Police say the boy was cycling along the road with friends when a black Volkswagen Golf stopped alongside and the occupants spoke to the group.
One of the occupants then shot the boy with a BB gun. The pellet broke the skin on his cheek. The car then drove off from the scene. No other members of the group were shot at.
DC Clive Ellis, the investigating officer, said: “I’d like to speak to anyone who was travelling in or around the area of Warwick Way on Friday night and saw a black Volkswagen Golf being driving an unusual or suspicious manner.
“Any information you have about this incident could help my investigation. Please get in touch if you can help.”
