Are you waiting for superfast broadband in Loughborough?

Leicestershire County Council has announced £5m plans to extend superfast broadband across rural Loughborough and Charnwood.

Homes in Barrow Upon Soar, Rothley and Shepshed are next on the list to get superfast broadband as part of new plans from Leicestershire County Council. 

The council wants to extend networks to properties across the county located in the most rural areas. 

Superfast broadband is now available in areas of Barkby, Barrow Upon Soar, Birstall, Mountsorrel, Quorn, Shepshed and Woodhouse Eaves but the council hopes to extend it further.

Parts of North West Leicestershire will also be included in the upgrade including areas of Castle Doningont, Ellistown, Hathern, Ibstock, Hugglescote, Long Whatton, Loughborough, Newton Burgoland and Thringstone. 

Since July 2014, the council has worked with BT to make superfast broadband available to more than 73,000 premises. By September 2018, it’s expected that a further 11,000 will benefit - taking the total to 97%. This third phase would increase coverage further. 

If approved, the council will consult residents and appoint a company - work would get underway in autumn 2018.
