Abandoned boat removed from the Canal Basin
After Fosse 107 contacted The Canal and River Trust explaining that the local community were concerned of the state of the Canal Basin in Loughborough The Trust agreed to look into it .
We are pleased to say that the listened and took on board the concerns
The boat Le Fortune was removed from the basin on Tuesday and taken to Pillings Marina, where it will be dismantled and disposed of. The operation was complex and challenging, but necessary to address ongoing concerns from other boaters and the local community.
As a charity responsible for caring for 2,000 miles of waterways, we are urging boaters who may be struggling to seek support early rather than abandoning their boat, so that issues can be resolved before reaching this stage.
A spokesperson for the Trust said:
“It’s always sad to see boats reach this condition, but we recognise the concern this situation has caused for other boaters and local communities. Despite making every effort to contact the owner, we were unable to do so, and it was therefore right for us to step in and arrange removal.
