Appeal for witnesses following fatal collision on the A46

A man has died following a two-vehicle collision on the A46 westbound in Wanlip today (Monday 23 September).

Police were called to the incident, which involved a box van and a lorry, just after 2pm.

The collision happened at the junction with the A6.

East Midlands Ambulance Service and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance. The driver of the box van was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries have been reported.

A road closure was put in place on the A46 at the junction with Hobby Horse roundabout following the incident. The closure remains in place, but it is anticipated the road will re-open about 7pm.

Enquiries are ongoing into the collision and officers are appealing to anyone with any information to make contact.

Detective Constable Charlotte Wright, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) said: “We are continuing to establish the circumstances of the incident and have spoken to a number of witnesses.

“If you have any information and have not yet spoken with us, we urge you to make contact. Did you witness the collision? Or did you see either of the vehicles beforehand?

“Or do you have any dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident? If you have any information which you believe could help us, we urge you to get in touch.”
