The council says that the facility has 'triggered safety concerns'.

Bedworth Miners’ Welfare Park’s Skate Park is due to be shut down as Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council no longer think it is safe.

The facility was built in 2001 and arrangements are now being made to take it down.

A new skate park was meant to be constructed alongside the proposed new Bedworth Physical Activity Hub, however, this project is currently on hold as the Council is seeking additional funding.

Portfolio Holder for Health and Environment, Cllr Julian Gutteridge, said: “Following the recent announcement concerning the delay to the proposed new Bedworth Physical Activity Hub, the Parks and Greenspace Team commissioned a further assessment of the Skate Park at the rear of the current leisure centre.

“This Skate Park was due to have been replaced as a part of the new leisure facility, as outlined in the Park Concept Plan published in 2020. The Skate Park has served youngsters and older users of the Bedworth area and beyond now for more than 20 years.

“Unfortunately, the time has now come to de-commission the ramps, which have reached the end of their useful working life, and arrangements are being made for their removal. The Parks and Greenspace Team are currently investigating ways in which temporary facilities could be employed ahead of the new facility, now planned to be built once funds allow.”

The council have said they are looking into the option of having a temporary skate park.

Recently Miners’ Welfare Park has had its tennis courts resurfaced and a brand new mountain bike trail.
