Bulky waste collections to resume in Hinckley and Bosworth

A limited bulky waste collection service will resume in May.

The collection of bulky waste items in Hinckley and Bosworth was halted in March due to severe staff shortages arising from the coronavirus pandemic.

The Borough Council says while staff levels have now improved, the service must comply with social distancing requirements which require the council to limit the items that can be collected.  

This means that only items that can be safely moved by one operative working alone can currently be booked for bulky waste collections.  

The council also says they have already contacted customers who had previously booked a bulky item collection to rearrange the service where possible and those collections started last week.

Executive Member for Street Scene Services, Councillor Bill Crooks said: “I’d like to thank everyone for their patience during this very challenging time and particularly to the front line staff who are adapting to the current ways of working. We appreciate this is only a very limited service at this stage, but working practice will be kept under review in line with government guidance on social distancing and we trust it will be helpful to residents if they are unable to keep items at home until services return to normal.”
