Police are investigating an burglary in Burbage.
Officers investigating a report of aggravated burglary in Burbage are asking anyone with information to come forward.
At around 9.20am today (Tuesday 31 December) police received a report that a man had been attacked inside an address in Brookside sometime between midnight and 9am. It was reported that four men had forced their way into the house and attacked the victim with hammers.
He has since been taken to hospital to be treated for potentially life-changing injuries.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish what may have been taken from the property.
Detective Inspector Chris Brett said: “Our investigation is very much in its early stages. Brookside is a long, residential street and I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area in the early hours of this morning and saw anyone acting in an unusual or suspicious manner.
“Did you see anyone leave the house? I would also like to speak to anyone who has CCTV footage installed at their property or anyone who was driving in the area and has a dashcam installed in their vehicle.”
