132 people were arrested in December, across the county, as part of the annual drink, drug drive campaign.
Leicestershire Police has reviewed the data taken throughout Christmas party season and described the results as "extremely disappointing."
- In total, 85 people were arrested on suspicion of being over the drink-drive limit
- 35 people were arrested on on suspicion of drug offences
- 12 drivers failed to provide.
- 47 of those arrested were following a roadside collision.
- 24 of those detained were between 8am and 5pm.
- 30 were drivers aged 24 or under.
While 58 of those arrested were in Leicester city the remainder were across our rural boroughs and districts, including 18 in Charnwood, 13 in Blaby, 12 in North West Leicestershire and 10 in Hinckley and Bosworth.
Jonathan Clarkson, spokesperson for the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Road Safety Partnership said, “It is extremely disappointing that so many drivers chose to ignore our advice and made the wrong choice to get behind the wheel while over the limit and now face the prospect of starting 2026 with a criminal conviction.”
