Twycross Zoo have tweeted about the incident, asking those already at the zoo to speak to a member of staff on their exit. Due to the road closure people with tickets are asked to contact information@twycrosszoo.org to rearrange your visit.

Please be aware that there has been a major traffic incident on the A444 at the entrance of our zoo which means that the road is currently closed.
If you are already at the zoo today please speak to a member of our team upon exit.
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue have updated their site to say the road will remain closed for a police investigation.

Leicestershire Police have issued the following statement:
"Police were called to a report of a two vehicle collision on the A444 at 1.35pm this afternoon (Wednesday).
"The road is currently closed.
"East Midlands Ambulance Service and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue are also in attendance.
"One person – a woman - has been taken to hospital."
The call was initially received at 1:42pm this afternoon.
Two fire engines from Atherstone and Ashby were dispatched.
On arrival it was confirmed two vehicle crash with one person trapped and being assessed by East Midlands Ambulance Service. Police are also on the scene.
Just after half 2 Leicestershire Fire and Rersuce issued an update which said the driver of one of the vehicles has managed to get themsevles out and is being looked after by paramedics.
They removed the roof of the other vehicle and a working to get the passenger out.

We understand traffic is being affected on Burton and Atherstone Roads.
We have contacted Leicestershire Police for a statement.
