Four more police officers allegedly attacked in Nuneaton this weekend

Two people have been charged with assaulting an emergency worker.

Four police officers were assaulted while on duty last weekend (24th/26th September). It comes after a further eight were injured across Nuneaton and Bedworth the previous weekend (17th/20th September).

On Friday evening an officer was allegedly struck to the thigh as he attempted to arrest a man following a report of a disturbance in Ansley Road. A 30-year-old man from Gun Hill was later charged with assaulting an emergency worker and is due to appear at Coventry Magistrates’ Court on 22 October.

A 26-year-old woman from Barwell was arrested and charged with assaulting an emergency worker after an officer was allegedly kicked in the leg while attending a report of a disturbance at George Eliot Hospital on Saturday afternoon. She will appear at Coventry Magistrates’ Court on 22 October.

A 39-year-old man from Nuneaton was arrested in an incident which saw a car crash into a police vehicle after being stopped in Tomkinson Road on Saturday evening. An officer suffered injuries to his arm and leg. He was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and drink driving. He was later released under investigation while enquiries continue.

An officer was allegedly kicked in the back as he transported a prisoner to custody on Sunday night. The 26-year-old from Nuneaton had been detained in Poachers Close following a report of a disturbance. He was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker, possession of cannabis, criminal damage and breach of the peace. He was later released under investigation while enquiries continue.
