Funeral arrangements released for former Nuneaton Mayor

Brian Hawkes passed away on the 28th July.

A celebration of the life of Brian Leslie Hawkes will take place on Wednesday 25th August, 2021, 12.30pm.

The former Mayor of Nuneaton and Bedworth, who was famous for his famous ties and socks, died after battling a long illness on the 28th July 2021

His family said: "Our family mourns the passing of an inspiring and well respected man, someone who has touched the hearts of so many and will be sadly missed."

The Service of Celebration will be at The Heart of England Crematorium in Nuneaton. 

On the 25th August 2021 the Borough Flag will fly at half mast to honour Mr Hawkes.

Mr Hawkes served as Chairman of North Warwickshire and Bedworth Labour Party, and was a long standing member of Bedworth Armistice Committee.  

He also represented the Heath the ward on the Borough Council and was also a former Warwickshire County Councillor, representing the Bedworth West ward for Labour.

He was well known for his after dinner speeches recalling some of the "highlights" of his time dealing with health and safety issues when he was was a Chartered Member of the Institute of Safety and Health.

Mourning wear is optional but the family welcomes attendees wearing outfits that reflect Brian’s personality.  

The family has requested family flowers only however donations in Brian’s memory will be most gratefully received for The Dorethea Unit at The George Eliot Hospital Nuneaton.
