The victim woke up to find Barry Hancox of Clarence Road, assaulting her. She told him, 'No' but he continued the attack.

The 48-year-old was charged regarding the incident at another address in Hinckley in December 2018.

He had denied the offence but was convicted by a jury at Leicester Crown Court today (30th April 2021).

He has been released on conditional bail and is due to be sentenced in July.

The victim had been staying over at the address when she described waking up during the night to find Hancox sexually assaulting her. The victim told Hancox “no”, but he continued to sexually assault her.

The victim confided in a friend about what had happened before reporting the incident to police a couple of days later.

An investigation was launched including speaking with the victim and carrying out a number of enquiries including forensic examination on the victim’s clothing.

Hancox was arrested and interviewed where he denied the offence. But following enquiries carried out by officers, he was charged.

Support was provided to the victim throughout the investigation and court case including support from the Juniper Lodge sexual assault referral centre.

Officer in the case, Detective Constable James Simpson said: “The victim bravely confided in a friend before reporting the offence to police and I would like to thank her for this bravery and co-operation during extremely difficult circumstances. Full support has been provided to the victim throughout our enquiries and following a full investigation, a charge was made.

“We take all reports of sexual offences extremely seriously and encourage anyone who has been a victim of an offence to talk with someone about it and to report the offence to police. We have specially trained officers who will provide full support to you throughout the investigation and we also work closely with a number of partner agencies who can also help.”
