Local election results

The Conservatives lost five seats but still retained control of Charnwood Borough Council.

Charnwood Borough Council has 52 councillors across 28 wards and all seats were up for election on May 2nd when residents voted this year.

Borough councils must hold a whole council election every four years.

The results for the Charnwood Borough Council vote were as follows. 

• 36 Conservatives (lost five seats)
• 13 Labour (gained four seats) 
• 2 Independent 
• 1 Green Party

The borough council is responsible for many services including bin collections, looking after 250,000 acres of parks and open spaces, determining planning applications, homelessness, managing 5,500 council homes and licensing to name but a new. The borough council is also responsible for three leisure centres, Loughborough Town Hall, Charnwood Museum and events such as Loughborough Fair.

In Quorn, there was a referendum on the Neighbourhood local plan which helps to decide on planning applications in the area. The majority voted in favour. 

The referendum asked 'Do you want Charnwood Borough Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for the Quorn Area to help it decide planning applications in the Neighbourhood Area?' 1485 people voted YES and 198 voted NO.
