Avro Energy is the latest energy firm to have ceased trading and thousands of customers will be transferred to new suppliers.

The company, which is based on Wheatfield Way in Hinckley, made the announcement on Wednesday 22nd September.

Customers have been advised not to switch suppliers but to wait for the energy regulator, Ofgem, to appoint a new supplier.

The company was set up in 2014.

A message on the Avro energy website said:

"Avro Energy is ceasing to trade. Ofgem, the energy regulator, is appointing a new supplier for its customers.

Customers need not worry, their supplies are secure and domestic credit balances are protected.

Ofgem’s advice is not to switch, but to wait until they appoint a new supplier for you. This will help make sure that the process of handing customers over to a new supplier, and honouring domestic customers’ credit balances, is as hassle free as possible for customers.

Support and advice is available on the Ofgem website for both domestic customers and non-domestic customers. Alternatively, if customers need additional support, they can call Citizens Advice on 0808 223 1133 or email them via their webform. Advice will also be shared on Ofgem’s twitter @ofgem and facebook channels."

The firms social media channels have been taken down.

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council said it stands ready to offer support to any local Avro Energy employees.

Council Leader Stuart Bray said: “In these difficult times it is particularly disappointing to see the national energy crisis affect a Hinckley based business; I’m very concerned about the impact of this failure on people’s careers and livelihoods.  We and our partners - the DWP, National Careers Service and Leicestershire Employment Hub - stand ready to help and advise those workers who are affected by this announcement.”

Any former Avro employees seeking support are encouraged to contact the council on 01455 238141 or email customer.services@hinckley-bosworth.gov.uk  Meanwhile Ofgem, the energy regulator, is providing advice to Avro energy customers on their website www.ofgem.gov.uk
