Leicestershire Police warn that they have been 'very busy' due to snow

They have asked residents to stay home if the journey is not essential.

Leicestershire Police have put out a plea asking residents to not call them about vehicles that are stuck and not causing a major hazard.

The force says they have been very busy due to the weather and are getting a lot of calls about stuck vehicles.

Leicestershire Police said: "If the vehicles are not in a dangerous position or causing a major hazard then please do not call us about this.  Please stay at home if your journey is not essential."

There was heavy snow across the county this morning and the Met Office has a yellow weather warning in place until 14:00 this afternoon.

Bin collections cancelled in Hinckley and Nuneaton due to 'severe weather'

Bins collections in Hinckley and Nuneaton have been cancelled due to the snow.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council said: "Waste operations are again suspended due to severe weather conditions. We have made this decision on safety grounds for the public and refuse crews and thank residents for their understanding. 

"We are monitoring the situation and ask that your wheelie bins remain accessible."

In Hinckley and Bosworth the bins collections have been cancelled due to the snow, road conditions and some staff have been unable to get to work.

Collections today were due to be recycling/gardening in Hinckley, refuse in Barwell and refuse and garden waste in the rural area of Fenny Drayton.

The council plan to collect Barwell refuse collections and the Fenny Drayton area on Monday and Tuesday next week together with some remaining streets in Earl Shilton from Thursday’s collections so are asking residents to leave their bins out.

 

No bulky waste collections happening in Charnwood for next two Saturdays

The borough council says it is because the disposal sites are closed.

Charnwood Borough Council has apologised after they have had to postpone bulky waste collections for tomorrow (11th March) and Saturday the 18th of March.

The collections have been postponed as the County Council's disposal sites are closed due to the current weather conditions.

All customers affected will be contacted.

 

Hinckley market traders set up stalls despite weather conditions

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Leicestershire until two this afternoon.

Hinckley market traders have set up in Market Place and on Castle Street despite the snow and cold weather.

Stodds fruit and veg, Belvior Bakery, the fish man and the butcher are in their usual places in the town.

Hinckley and Bosworth have asked residents to take care if travelling into town.
