Man arrested as elderly woman is killed in a crash in Bulkington

The driver of a red taxi got out to help and police are appealing for this person to come forward.

A woman in her 70s has died after being involved in a road traffic collision in Winterton Road, Bulkington.

The crash happened at the junction with New Street at around 7 pm yesterday (Wednesday 2 March).

The woman was treated at the scene but later died in hospital.

Officers have arrested a 31-year-old man from Bulkington, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Police are appealing for the driver of a red taxi to come forward as they helped at the scene.

Inspector Mick Huntley from the serious collision investigation team said: “Anyone who was travelling in the area around the time of the incident and has any dashcam footage, we are urging you to come forward.

“We are working to piece together exactly what happened in the time leading up to this tragic incident and any footage may help with our investigation.”

The woman's next of kin have been informed however a post-mortem and formal identification have not yet taken place.
