The victim was struck by a moped on Castle Street.

A moped rider who failed to stop at the scene of a collision in Hinckley has today (Friday 12 May) pleaded guilty.

Jordan Gillard was charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving and the 20-year-old of Boulter Crescent, Wigston, pleaded guilty to that offence.

On Friday 27th August 2021, a 20-year-old man was walking in the pedestrianised area of Castle Street when he was struck by a moped.

The force of the collision resulted in him being thrown in the air and being knocked unconscious.  He suffered serious injuries and was taken to Coventry Hospital where he remained in a coma for nearly a week.

He suffered multiple injuries including a fractured skull, traumatic brain injury and a collapsed lung.

The moped rider didn’t stop at the scene and was identified after extensive enquiries by officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU).

Jordan Gillard is due to be sentenced on Friday 9th of June.

Detective Constable Charlotte Wright from the force’s SCIU, said: “This has been a lengthy investigation and we are pleased Gillard has admitted to the offence.

“The incident has left a massive impact on the victim who is still undergoing treatment for injuries he suffered more than 18 months ago.

“A number of people witnessed what happened and helped the victim until the emergency services arrived.  It was a traumatic situation for those involved.

“Gillard knew his actions may have caused significant injuries but despite that he didn’t stop at the scene or come forward immediately.   This was irresponsible behaviour and we hope now he will reflect on his behaviour and consider the impact on him and the victim.”
