A motorcyclist has died following a collision on Aylestone Road this morning (Thursday 27 April).
Shortly after 2.30 am, an officer made a request for the rider of a Kawasaki motorcycle to stop close to the prison.
A short time later, the motorcyclist collided with a lamppost. The East Midlands Ambulance Service was contacted and a man in his 20s was taken to hospital. However, he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Welford Road and Aylestone Road were both closed following the incident, but have since reopened.
In line with standard practice, the matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct IOPC. An investigation is continuing.
Detective Sergeant Jon Putnam, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said: "Our enquiries are very much in their early stages and I would ask anyone who was in the area of Aylestone Road earlier this morning to come forward.
"I'd like to speak to anyone with dashcam footage, who saw the collision occur or saw the motorcycle beforehand.
"Anything you're able to provide could help."
