A new x-ray facility at Hinckley and District Hospital has opened following the decision to reinstate the service.

It's been made possible through funding and support from University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, following the closure of the previous x-ray service in September last year when it was deemed unsafe for staff to use.

Over the past few months councillors had expressed their concerns about its loss.

It would have meant local residents travelling to Coalville or Leicester.

Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council Leader, Councillor Stuart Bray said: “I am delighted that the funding for this key facility has been secured but equally proud that we helped lead the campaign to save the service with the offer of loaning funds to West Leicestershire CCG.
“Whilst those funds were not necessary I’m grateful to our colleagues at the CCG, the University Hospitals of Leicester and the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Alliance who provide planned care services at Hinckley and District Hospital for their work in bringing about a solution to this difficult issue. This is a key facility for local residents that all of us were keen to reinstate in Hinckley as soon as practically possible.
“In these difficult days it is great to receive and see some good news which will benefit a lot of people.”
