George Morewood

"Morewood made no attempt to muzzle his dogs or restrict them to his garden, despite knowing their individual personalities and tendencies."

A 23-year-old, from Camp Hill Road in Nuneaton, will have to pay a £207 fine, as well as compensation of £750 after being found guilty of owning dogs that were dangerously out of control.

Two of George Morewood's dogs, both XL American Bulldogs, have also been given a Dog’s Contingent Destruction Order, under which they will need to be muzzled and on leads in a public place; never walked by anyone under the age of 16; neutered and spayed if not already done so; and muzzled while in the garden.

This is following an incident from 29 March 2023, in which Morewood’s dogs attacked another dog which was located in a garden a few houses away from Morewood’s property.

The dog that had been attacked was rushed to a vet for their injuries.

Sgt Mark Calvert said “Morewood’s dogs were of a breed that has recently been banned for sale and breeding in the UK for this very reason – a tendency towards aggression which, left unchecked, is highly dangerous to other people and animals.

“Morewood made no attempt to muzzle his dogs or restrict them to his garden, despite knowing their individual personalities and tendencies.

“We are hoping that this Contingent Destruction Order will make him take his ownership of these animals more seriously in future – for his sake, for the sake of his neighbours, and for the sake of his dogs.”
