Following the Secretary of State’s appointment of David Spencer to undertake the independent examination of Nuneaton and Bedworth’s Borough Plan, it has been confirmed that the examination hearings will commence on Wednesday 30 August 2017 at 10am.

It is anticipated that the venue will be the Town Hall in Nuneaton, but this has still to be confirmed.

Those invited to participate will be contacted by the Programme Officer, Carmel Edwards, who is independent from the Council and reports directly to the Inspector. Carmel is dealing with all procedural, administrative and programming matters.

The hearings, which are open to the public, will assist the Inspector in forming a judgement on the soundness and legal compliance of the Plan. In doing so he will consider whether the Plan’s policies are positively prepared, justified, effective and consistent with national policy.

Only invited participants will be permitted to speak and participate in discussions although anyone may observe.

The last round of public consultation on the Council’s Borough Plan Publication ran for a period of six weeks from 30 January to 13 March 2017. Representations received during this period were all sent to the Inspector as part of the evidence base when the Plan was submitted to the Planning Inspectorate on 6 June 2017.

For information about the examination and hearings please contact Carmel Edwards at the Town Hall, Nuneaton, telephone 07969 631930, programmeofficer@carmeledwards.com. You can also find useful information in the Planning Inspectorate’s guide, Examining Local Plan Procedural Practice.

The Council’s website will be kept up to date with progress of the examination, please go to the examination webpages within the Planning, Borough Plan section: www.nuneatonandbedworth.gov.uk/boroughplanexamination
