Step-dad jailed for five years for boy's death

A 36-year-old man has been jailed five-year old Charlie Dunn died at Bosworth Water Park in 2016.

A stepfather has been jailed for five years after leaving a five-year-old boy to drown at a water park in Market Bosworth last year.

36-year-old Paul Smith of Caledonian, Glascote Heath, Tamworth, admitted gross negligence manslaughter part way through his trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

He has been sentenced today to five years and two months in prison for this offence, but was also given a two year prison sentence after admitting one count of witness intimidation, committed on 19th June 2017 and four months for four driving offences to run concurrently.

He was given a total sentence of seven years and six months and will be disqualified from driving for five years and three months on release from prison.

Charlie Dunn died after drowning at Bosworth Water Park in Market Bosworth on 23rd July 2016.

His mother, 28-year-old Lynsey Dunn pleaded guilty to two counts of child neglect, one in relation to Charlie between 2 July 2014 and 23 July 2016, and a second in relation to another child on 8 May 2015.

Dunn was today given an eight month prison sentence suspended for two years.
