We are being encouraged to talk about mental health

A free event aimed at encouraging people to talk about mental health is being hosted at Barwell’s George Ward Centre next month.

The event, which takes place on Thursday 6 February, has been organised by the Borough Council as part of Time to Talk Day to offer people the chance to be more open about mental health.

There will be information stalls and arts activities between 10am and 2pm and various organisations will be available to provide support and information, including Leicestershire Recovery College, LPT Patient Experience and Involvement Group, Sharing Precious Memories, Public Health Time Banking, Voluntary and Community Partnership, promoting volunteering opportunities, Mandala Counselling, Mental Health Matters, LGBT Centre, Children and Family Wellbeing Service and the Library Service.

The event is open to everyone and there will be lots going on including arts activities provided by Creative Catharsis, fun activities from Time to Change and the launch of the Time to Talk film.

Executive Member for Culture at the Borough Council, Councillor Keith Nichols said: “Mental health problems affect one in four people every year and it’s easy to think there’s no right time to talk about mental health. But the more we talk about it, the better life is for all of us. Time to Talk Day is a chance for all of us to be more open about mental health – to talk, to listen, to change lives. I hope everyone who comes along to this free event benefits from the support on offer in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.”
